Bodybuilding Program Basics|The Bodybuilder Look

The Essential for the Muscular Look by Scott Jameson

Maybe you think it’s weird. Maybe you never thought about it. Or maybe you have and figured it's too much work.

All competitive bodybuilders do it. But so did Tom Cruise in Top Gun, Brad Pitt in Troy and Arnold in all his movies. Are you wondering what I am talking about? Well I am talking about shaving. That is shaving your legs, chest, abs arms and any other place that shows muscle on the body. I know for some of you, you just can't bring yourself to trim those legs or chest. Well, get over it. Its time you see the aesthetic and practical part of cleaning the muscle up of bod hair.

To Shave or Not to Shave, that is the question.

Shaving gives you (and others) clear view of the muscle. In other words, all that hair obscures the clarity of the muscle and detracts from what you have worked hard to get and show. Get with guys…here’s why!

  1. You will train harder, trust me. When you see the clear view of the muscles and veins when working out you will be motivated to push out that extra rep or do just one more set to make that muscle bulge again. You know what I mean.
  2. You will look younger. Yes really. Why do think a 40 ish year old Tom Cruise shaves his chest before the bare chested scene? You got it, guys in early 20’s often don’t have much chest hair and that moves Tom down the age ladder some. It is just like the cosmetics only cheaper.
  3. Skin products, like suntun lotion, aloe and body lotions are easier to apply. Ever see a hairy guy smearing a half tube of lotion into his chest. He really has to work at it to make it hit the skin and in the end he looks like a greasy hair ball. Clean shaven guys show off the every muscle and look polished with a little lotion. Bodybuilders for years have used baby oil to emphasize the muscle separation and improve looks.
  4. It’s more comfortable. If you have spent time in training your legs, the hair gets all roughed up and snagged in training clothes, jeans and especially knit dress pants. Clean those legs and you won’t believe how easy and good they feel inside a pair of snug pants.
  5. It is cooler. You’re training hard, you need to dissipate the heat fast. All that hair holds in heat. It is like wearing a coat. If you want to sweat, wear clothes that can be removed.
  6. Do it for us. All that hair holds sweat and as the song says "oooh that smell". You'll stink less if you have less hair. Nobody wants to smell bad!
  7. Clean up faster. When you are sweating, you can towel down and wipe off quickly.
  8. Communicates you are serious about bodybuilding and it shows. If you’ve got the muscle, show it off man! Why the heck would you spend so much time building that body if it wasn’t to have others notice? Just cracks me up when I see someone from the gym that is out and about and hiding their muscle under bulky clothes. We live in a world where 99.9% are out of shape. For crying out loud, don’t you want show that you in the .1%? Well hair is going to hide it. Your Abs and Chest will look incredible when clean shaven of the hair. Just like the quarterback that enjoys a good pass for a touch down. So should the bodybuilder show the result of their hard training.

How to Get Started

For you hairy guys this will seem like a pain but let me tell you it is worth every razor stroke. But it is really not that difficult.

Start by using a standard electric hair trimmer. You know, those hair trimmers that your mom or dad bought to save them 10 bucks from taking you to barber. Well those hair trimmers can be bought for less than 20 bucks. Use the trimmer without any guards and simply shear the hair. Clean the Chest, Abs, Legs and Arms. Okay, you Neanderthals will have to trim the back too. The trimmer will take you down to a stubble in no time that is ready for shaving. The rest is easy.

Hop in the shower, get your razor and have at it. In less 5 minutes you can be clean shaven muscle and show your every cut.

After that, do a quick once over every day during the shower to hold down the growth. Don’t worry if you miss a spot, it won’t look goofy and you’ll get the next day when it more obvious.

After shaving, apply a body lotion. See how good this feels. My personal preference is Nivea lotion. (No I don’t get a promotional fee). It is little more expensive but it seems to hold the moisture in my skin better than others and it also gives a youthful glow to any exposed skin.

So there you have it guys. If you want your muscularity to be its best, clean off that hair.
