If you haven’t you should. If you did, wasn’t it great.
I visited the 2006 Arnold Classic Expo this weekend and it was well worth the trip. Where else can you pay 10 bucks and get 50 bucks worth of supplements, magazines and information. Not to mention you get to see some of the famous in bodybuilding wandering around. I don’t know about you but I feel like a shrimp compared to those.
Some of the famous that I saw were
- Jay Cutler (shorter like most bodybuilders, huge but well off content condition. Jay has a massive waistline even when in condition)
- Sean Allen (tall and bigger than a barn. He was stuff into an under armor shirt)
- Vince Galanti (a nice guy as he interacted with folks)
- Dorian Yates (a regular size guy now)
- Lou Ferrigno (I’d say big Lou is around 50 now and looks pretty good still)
- Stan McQuay (just saw from a distance)
- Derik Farnsworth (shorter than my grandmother but ripped)
The old and famous were Larry Scott, the first Mr. Olympia, Ed Corney, Frank Zane and Danny Padilla where are all contemporaries of Arnold Schwarzenegger. It was refreshing to talk to Ed who was a genuinely nice guy. Frank Zane who I have greatly admired was unfriendly and seemed a bit arrogant. Too bad, they give bodybuilding and themselves a bad name. Maybe he was just having a bad day?
I guess the highlight of my day was meeting Pasi Schalin. Now frankly many of you may not have heard of him. Pasi was handing out something without his shirt on and was ripped to shreds. I admire a person that maintains the bodybuilding look year round. Many Pro’s look pretty sloppy in the off season, but Pasi models, acts and trains others. He has the look that we should strive for year round. I talked to him briefly and he was really nice. He was not offended that I did not recognize him. Check this out... this was how he looked.
The Expo was packed but all in all well worth the pushing and shoving. I picked up a bunch of Nitric Oxide vascular dilators samples. These products claim to give ultimate pump and every marketeer has the better product. I will be trying out and reporting on these in an article soon.
